Upon arrival at Indochina Sails’ waiting lounge (around 11:45 – 12:00), you will complete the check-in procedures before boarding a speedboat/tender to meet the Indochine Cruise.
You’ll be warmly welcomed on board with a refreshing drink, followed by a short safety briefing from the cruise manager. After settling into your elegant cabin, enjoy a delicious buffet lunch in the onboard restaurant as the cruise glides gently into the heart of the magnificent bay.

Ha Long Bay is beautiful all year, but if you want the perfect mix of calm seas, pleasant sunshine, and clear skies, the months from March to May and September to November are the golden window. These shoulder seasons offer comfortable weather without the heavy crowds of peak winter or the tropical storms of summer. If you travel in June–August, you’ll enjoy warmer waters and great deals, but showers or last-minute schedule changes may happen. For travelers who love cool air, December–February offers crisp mornings and dramatic, misty landscapes. Our advice: Tell us your travel dates and the type of weather you enjoy — we’ll match you with the best cruise options for that time of year.
A 1-day cruise is fine if you’re short on time, but it gives you only a small glimpse of the bay. You’ll see a cave or an island, enjoy lunch on board, and then it’s time to return. Most travelers — especially first-time visitors to Vietnam — feel that a 2-day, 1-night cruise is the ideal balance. You get to slow down, watch the sunset over the limestone peaks, enjoy kayaking when the crowds are gone, and wake up to sunrise on the water. If you prefer untouched nature, remote lagoons, and more time to relax, a 3-day cruise is the most rewarding option. Our recommendation: Choose at least an overnight cruise. Ha Long Bay is most magical before 9am and after 4pm — moments you miss on a day trip.
Think of the three bays as sisters — the same spectacular beauty, but each with its own personality. Ha Long Bay: The iconic, world-famous area. Stunning but the busiest, especially on classic sightseeing routes. Bai Tu Long Bay: A quieter, more peaceful extension of Ha Long. Perfect for travelers who dislike crowds. Lan Ha Bay: Located near Cat Ba Island, this bay offers calm waters, hidden coves, and some of the best kayaking in the region. If you want postcard-perfect photos, Ha Long Bay delivers. If you want serenity, Bai Tu Long and Lan Ha are unbeatable. Not sure which route is for you? We review all cruise itineraries daily and can help you choose the bay that suits your interests and budget.
The “best” route depends on the experience you want: Classic routes (Sung Sot Cave, Titop Island): Great for first-timers who want the famous highlights. Bai Tu Long routes: Scenic, quiet, and ideal for couples and nature lovers. Lan Ha Bay routes: Fantastic for kayaking, swimming, and less touristy activities. Cat Ba combination routes: Offer a mix of jungle trekking + beach time + cruising. Every cruise line has its own route license, so itineraries differ even within the same bay. Best tip: Instead of choosing the bay first, tell us what kind of experience you want. We match you with the right boat and route combination.
Technically, yes — but it’s rarely the best idea. Last-minute booking often means: Limited cabin availability Higher prices during busy months Less time to compare quality Risk of ending up on a lower-rated cruise Booking early (especially via a local operator) guarantees the right boat, the right cabin, and the right route for your needs. If you’re already in Vietnam and unsure what to choose, just message us — we’ll check availability in real time and offer the best options.
All three options work, but each has advantages: Booking on Online Platforms Best for quick comparisons and reading reviews — but often excludes transfers, meals, surcharges, or clear itinerary details. Booking Direct with Cruise Companies Good for securing a specific cabin type or last-minute deals, but customer service can be slower, less flexible and often they charge public prices. Booking with a Trusted Local Tour Operator (Highly Recommended) This is the most reliable option for international travelers. A good local expert will: Recommend the right cruise based on your dates, budget, and travel style Arrange transfers, hotels, and add-on activities Support you instantly if the weather changes Provide transparent information about what’s included Avoid price traps, hidden fees, or unclear itineraries Cruises in Ha Long Bay operate under strict regulations — having a local specialist handling your booking ensures a smooth and worry-free experience from beginning to end. If you want the most convenient and safe option, contact us — we’ll match you with a cruise that suits your plan perfectly and handle everything from pickup to drop-off.
Pack light — the cruise provides almost everything. Essentials: Passport (required during check-in) Sunglasses, hat, sunscreen Comfortable clothes, swimwear Light jacket (cool mornings from Oct–Mar) Waterproof phone pouch Power bank Flip-flops or sandals Personal medication Most cruises provide towels, bottled water, bathroom amenities, and safety equipment. If you enjoy photography, pack a spare battery — the sunsets and early mornings are unforgettable.
From Ninh Binh: It might be possible if your cruise starts later (around 12:00–12:30), but it’s a tight and stressful journey, and traffic delays are common. From Sapa: It’s not realistic. The shortest transfer is 7–8 hours, and many cruises depart by noon. Honest advice: Travel to Hanoi or Ha Long the day before your cruise. It gives you a relaxed start and eliminates the risk of missing boarding. If you’d like, we can arrange a smooth transfer schedule and overnight hotel so your cruise begins comfortably.
If you want a comfortable pace that fits well with most Vietnam itineraries, a 2-day, 1-night cruise is the sweet spot. It includes everything people love — kayaking, swimming, a cave visit, Titop Island or alternative stops, great dining onboard, and peaceful evening views. Short on time? Choose a well-planned day cruise. Want more nature and fewer tourists? Extend to 3 days. Traveling with kids or older travelers? The 2-day option offers the ideal mix of activities and downtime. Tell us how much time you have — we’ll suggest the cruise length that fits your travel style perfectly.
